Attitude to Guilds

As the originator and spiritual home of the Banker’s Guild, and the nation who enthusiastically assisted in the organisation of the Court of Daggers, Adventurer’s Guild, and Treasure Hunter’s Guild when they were first created, Hammerstadt has good relations with them all, and understands their place in the world for society to keep on turning. Now the world is in turmoil, Hammerstadt has thrown its all behind efforts to keep these working so that some semblance of law and order is maintained.

Guild membership is considered a valid addition to Syndica and Coterie membership – many a Scarsmith or Scrag can earn some coin alongside their main business when work is slow, and individual contracts from the Guilds are a welcome bonus to many freelancers of the Magpie Syndicate. The fact that they are competing for work against not just fellow Hammerstadters, but adventurers, warriors and cunning folk from across the Realms only adds to the appeal – all the better to show off what a Hammerstadter is made of. Many who gain Guild membership add a tattooed symbol to represent it.

The Court of Daggers operates out of a large guildhall in Zweiburg, and was one of the first organisations to move back into the district after the tragedy that destroyed the castle of Queen Henkla. It’s a busy, cheerful place, full of the hustle and bustle of the city and next door to the mercenary barracks, some of whom are members of the Court as well in order to take jobs on the side.

The central Commonwealth headquarters of the Banker’s Guild and Adventurer’s Guild operate out of two offices side-by-side in the central plaza of Hammerstadt, next door to all the most prestigious civic buildings owned and operated by the Syndica. Both are seen as important elements of civic life that bring in tourists from all nations to take on jobs and invest resources. The side streets are full of shops catering to Avereaux adventuring parties and Kairosi in search of a taste of home and a blacksmith who can fix a Psiloi’s spear as well as any Mason.

The Treasure Hunter’s Guild once stood alongside them in Hammerplatz, but after a fire that destroyed much of the upper levels it was decided to move the operation to the Westwyk, close to the dredging operations that garner many interesting artifacts, and well away from the main city in case of more disaster. Any rumour of a Thieves’ Guild operating out of the building was quashed at the same time.
