Military Interests
The approach to the military of Avereaux is not a conventional one. Since the fall of the Royal Line there has not been anyone in a position to commission a formal army. As such any actions of a military nature have fallen to the many Adventuring Parties of the nation. As the Royal line fractured and many from the Royal armies left to pursue their own interest some wished to continue to protect and are employed by an organisation called the Wardens to patrol the roads of Avereaux and its towns. Very rarely do they travel in numbers enough to perform any significant military action or offensive, they ensure that Avereaux has a reasonable level of safety throughout the nation except possibly in the furthest of outskirts.
When the time comes for a large-scale military expedition the details and location are delivered to the many quest boards in the Freeholds where word travels fast. Many parties gather and some temporarily merge together to form larger grand parties more appropriate to large scale warfare. On the battlefield the flexibility of the Avereaux adventure party shines through with magicians using their spells to disable troublesome opponents, Chevalier taking down the most heavily armoured, healers performing battlefield triage on their comrades and entertainers keeping up morale with songs and speeches, the party works together to support one another’s strengths and cover their weaknesses.
The sole remnant of the Avereaux royal military is the Griffinguard. Atop the aery in Cloudreach, these elite knights care for the few remaining Griffins, hold out for being called upon to defend Avereaux and hope for maybe one day to fight alongside the glories of a true Royal once again.
