The Gods

Menhirs Fate has it’s own unique Pantheon featuring twelve Gods, each with their own area of influence. Shaped by the faith their followers having in them, they represent the spectrum of life across Elandra. During the year of 1024 the Gods were silent, their presences not felt as prayers went unanswered, but now these beings walk amongst the people again.
The Gods are too powerful to manifest in their full divine form and, instead must create avatars that represent Aspects of their interests, Aspects are a limited representation of a God, a sliver of their power distilled into a “mortal” form that allows them to directly interact with the world. Some Aspects appear regularly while others are less common, though there is no reason known to mortals as to why this is.
On each God’s page you’ll find three of the most commonly encountered aspects for each God, though all of the Gods have many more aspects, some of which might only be encountered in one specific Nation.
The Gods in Menhirs Fate interact with the world for a variety of reasons. Sometimes their own whims, sometimes in response to the magic of the world and sometimes in response to mortals (for better or worse!)

Some Aspects appear many times and others rarely. There is no known rhyme or reason for which Aspect may appear but the Gods do try to help their followers.
Aspects can appear in many forms as the Gods contain no fixed gender or appearance. Even the same Aspect may appear somewhat different if it appears again. Sometimes Aspects will remember things they did while on the mortal plane and sometimes they won’t as this memory is left behind with the divine form.

Symbols & Tenets

Symbols for the Gods vary as much as their Aspects with people across Elandra coming up with a variety of symbols based on the Aspects they may have met or being told about in story. Some of the common symbols for each God can be found on their pages but many have a more personal relationship with their faith and use symbols that mean something to them and their allies.

As the Gods have a variety of Aspects, they are also represented by a wide array of symbology and tenets that represent their overarching teachings and areas of faith. None of the gods have absolute strictures, there are no limitations or restrictions on religious practices or beliefs so long as they fall within the laws of the lands, and people are free to worship or represent the gods in the most personal of ways. The tenets listed below are commonly agreed upon ones that guide followers towards a common form of worship, but are not enforced or held up as “true” belief, in the same way that while the symbols listed below are commonly used iconography across Elandra they are not universal, and people might have their own singular way of representing their chosen deity

OC Note: While some of the themes, symbols and tenets of the gods may have obvious parallels with real-world gods and religious, they are not designed to be copied and pasted from the real world and into Menhirs Fate. Real world gods, from both current and historical religions, should never be directly represented in game. Additionally, please be mindful of how your roleplay may affect other people on an out of character level, as there will be many religious beliefs present amongst people playing the game.

Mechanically, Aspects are how players will phsyically interact with the gods of Menhirs Fate. This can come about in a variety of ways and, while players can request the attention of certain gods, they can never guarantee which Aspect will turn up, even as a result of using the Entreaty skill. The Aspect that chooses to manifest will always be capable of helping, but nothing guarantees that who you expected will turn up.
Each page contains a brief descriptions of each God, commonly agreed upon symbols and tenets and regularly sighted Aspects of them but none of these tenets, symbols and Aspects should be considered an exhaustive list. Many other examples of each may be witnessed in Elandra. It is also acceptable for players to have met or worship aspects not listed here as part of their backstories. However, please do not create backstories for your characters featuring world-changing events or godly miracles, these encounters shouldn’t be more than personally meaningful
.

While we’ll endeavour to tell continuing stories using the same members of crew to represent these aspects, however this is not always possible for a variety of reasons. At times, an aspect may look different to the last time you encountered them, or they may not remember conversations you had previously, because they’re being played by a different person. This is an unfortunate aspect of running a game that cannot be avoided.
